Latest News: OUTSTANDING RESULTS AS RECORDS TUMBLE AGAIN
Tuesday August 24th 2010
Congratulations to all pupils at Albany Science College who have once again broken all previous school records with this year's GCSE exam results. In all 83% of pupils gained 5 A* - C grades, with 60% A* - C including English and Maths.
Headteacher Don Higgs said "We are absolutely delighted once again with the results. Last year our value added scores, which reflect pupil progress over 5 years, put Albany in the top 5% of schools in the country. These results should improve even on that achievement."
Pupils who sat their GCSE's early in Years 9 & 10 also produced excellent results.

Latest News: Canteen Rescue Competition - we NEED your votes!
At the end of the Easter term a group of Year 8 pupils on the Able, Gifted and Talented register took part in a National competition to win £10,000 to refurbish the school dining room.
During Technology lessons the team conducted surveys with pupils and staff to find out what sort of things they wanted to see in a new canteen design. Some others looked into the furniture options available and themes to make the eating experience a more enjoyable one. They designed new menus and tried out recipes with their friends.
The group had to stick to the entry requirements and submit a limited amount of information from the huge portfolio they had compiled. They made a presentation to Mr Higgs about their plans and ideas and this was filmed as part of the submission.
Out of 200 entries Albany was judged to be in the shortlist of 20 to be judged by a celebrity panel to go through to the final 10 schools. This was not to be the end of the story!
We have just heard that our entry has made it through to the finals and filming for the competition will take place in September. We are the only school in the North West so we are thrilled with our success.
Win or lose the team worked very well and they should be congratulated on getting this far.

Latest News: Maths trip to Paris 12th – 16th July 2010
Twenty-five pupils and three staff have just returned from an enjoyable and educational trip to Paris. After a long journey the group was pleased to arrive at the ‘Etoile Parisienne’ hotel on the outskirts of Paris.
The first activity was swimming in an outdoor Olympic-sized pool next to the hotel, which gave the pupils chance to shake off travel fatigue and enjoy the summer sunshine. The Staff at the ‘Etoile Parisienne’ were excellent in encouraging the pupils to use French and join in with outdoor activities.
The next day (Wednesday) was one of the highlights of the trip – a full day visit to Disneyland Paris. However rumour had it that Eddie had performed a rain dance - and this seemed to be successful as there was two hours of torrential rain during the afternoon! The rain was not enough to dampen spirits and the pupils were able to go on rides, buy souvenirs and have lots of fun as expected.
The following day (Thursday) was packed with a variety of excursions. The first of these was to the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie where the pupils saw films with special effects & also went in the Planetarium. After a picnic lunch the group headed for central Paris for a cruise on the river Seine, passing many of the major sights of Paris including the Eiffel Tower, Place de la Concorde, the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and Notre Dame. The weather was a complete contrast to the previous day - pupils enjoyed the sunshine and ‘chilling out’ on the river.
A traditional French meal in the Latin Quarter followed. The waiter in the restaurant was very welcoming - he encouraged pupils to try speaking French and to enjoy the French cuisine.
The final activity of the day was to be a visit to the Eiffel Tower and most pupils had been really looking forward to going up the tower. Unfortunately this was not possible due to a security alert at the attraction.
The group departed on Friday morning and arrived back at school at 10.30pm.
