‘Albany Pupils are talk of the Town!’ – ‘Trials and Tribulations of Teenage Life!’
On Wednesday 28th January three pupils from Albany Science College entered the local round of the ‘Youth Speaks’ competition and won!
They went onto compete and win in the Lancashire and Cumbria District Finals of the 2009 Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition, held in Milnthorpe, Cumbria on Saturday 7th of February and competed against eight other schools, most of who were 6th form pupils. Their talk was about the ‘Trials and Tribulations of Teenage Life.’ The pupils Zara Khan, Laura May and Natalie Howarth had to talk about their chosen topic for twelve minutes. Not only did the girls win the best school team, but Laura May won the prestigious prize of ‘Best Speaker’!
They have won a visit to Rock FM in which the girls will deliver a 30 minute programme, (date to be confirmed) and will now go onto represent schools in the North West Finals, to be held at Preston County Hall Debating Chamber on 28th March 2009, in which they will compete against schools from all over the Northwest, from as far as Carlisle to Wales including Liverpool and Manchester representatives.
