Maths and French Trip to Paris: 2nd - 5th June 2009
40 pupils in Years 7 & 8 have recently taken part in a fantastic trip to Paris to study Maths and French. They were accompanied by 4 staff - Mrs. Brindle (who organised the trip), Mrs. Jackson, Mr. McNaboe and Mr. Ratcliffe.

Highlights of the trip were:
Cité des Sciences - pupils investigated Maths and Science through interactive displays.

Le Louvre - to see the Mona Lisa and the Pyramid featured in the Da Vinci Code.

Famous Sights of Paris - seen from the banks of the River Seine.

The Eiffel Tower - everyone in the group went right to the top! The tower lit up and was spectacular at night time.

Disneyland Paris - a full day exploring the rides and meeting favourite Disney characters

Events on the trip included:
Football in the Park the boys (and some girls) played football for about 2 hours. Many goals were scored but no-one was sure of the score at the end!

‘Albany’s got Talent’ featured a wide variety of acts including songs, a football mime and a quiz. Third place went to Anasur Rahman, Jon Moss, Lee Shattock and Daniel Smith for their French Quiz show. In second place were James Stirling, Joe Taylor Seb O’Malley and William Curwood-Cameron with the Dumbledore song. The contest was won by Amy Jones, Laura Taylor, Abbey Berry and Danielle Oxborrow for their beautiful rendition of ‘The Man who can’t be Moved’ by The Script. There were also consequences for the few who did not take part - standing on one leg for 15 seconds per leg!!

Certificate Presentation - on our last evening. Pupils were awarded certificates in the following categories:

Pickiest Eater Award: Amy Jones
Max Factor Award: Taylor Garrett
Night Owl Award: Robert Lowe
Pupil Needing the Most Sleep: Samantha Cook
Weakest Bladder Award: Dominic Mayers
Boo to a Goose Award: Danielle Berry
Happy Feet Award: Summer Barrow
Eiffel Tower Bravery Award: Emma Hough
Peter Kay Award for the most cheerful pupil: Lisa Heald
Le Français Fantastique (best French Speakers): Anasur Rahman
Max Bamford
Tidiest Room Award: Summer Barrow
Fatima Desai
Emma Stewart
Agnes Zieba
Dory Award:Mr Ratcliffe (instead of Lee Shattock)

Pupils responded well to :
- early mornings
- lots of walking
- late nights
- traffic jams
- the challenge of going up the Eiffel Tower
AND NO MOBILE PHONES FOR FOUR DAYS!!

Pupils also had a booklet of fun facts, puzzles and other activities to complete which related to everything they saw and did on the trip. The most used phrase (by teachers) was ‘Don’t be late’! The Coca Cola machine needed refilling several times! ‘Blood on the Carpet’ could be the title of a new thriller by the girls in Room 205 and there was ‘The Broken Picture’ scenario in Room 209!

The pupils were a credit to themselves, their parents and our school. The ‘Hotel Inspectors’ were extraordinarily impressed with the high standard of pupil behaviour - and the tidiness of our rooms!! Well done everyone.

Mrs. Brindle would like to thank staff for giving up their time - without this, the trip could not have taken place. Thanks also to other staff in school who covered for us or helped in any way.

Pupils joining Albany in September 2009 - look out for details of next year’s trip.

P.S. Shhh! Room 207 really was haunted - by an ‘electrifying’ spirit and REDRUM!!!!!!????
