‘Communitywize’ an innovative project bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together in Chorley has received a helping hand thanks to an award of £181,055 from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG).
In partnership with Astley and Buckshaw and Duke Street Childrens Centres, Albany Science College received the cash for the Communitywize project from BIG’s Reaching Communities programme, which aims to help those most in need and build stronger communities.
The Communitywize project will build on the successful work that Albany Science College has done in the past to engage the communities in learning and social activities focused on leisure, health and career development. Workshop and taster courses will be held in digital photography, healthy lifestyles, cooking, DIY, numeracy, literacy, ICT, Holiday Spanish, First Aid and community events. The project will provide family bonding and social events bringing members of the community including BME and disability groups together.
The project will recruit volunteers from the community and they will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and qualifications to enhance their future career prospects.
